Protecting Individual Rights and Freedoms

Civil liberties and individual freedoms are integral to democracy and a person’s ability to participate in the economy.

Supported efforts may ensure: 

• Individuals are protected from undue interventions by the state

• Special interest groups cannot thwart individual interests or subvert the democratic process for their own gains

• The rule of law applies equally to all citizens regardless of wealth or status

• Freedoms of association, religion, speech and expression are protected

Promoting Markets and Economic Prosperity

Our Donors believe a strong economy has the best chance to move people out of poverty; should operate without excessive government intervention; and allows people the freedom to create wealth and jobs.

Supported efforts encourage:

• Appropriate boundaries of government action

• Limiting unintended consequences of government interference with market signals

• Exploration of market-based, competitive solutions to resolve economic and social issues
