Our Strategies

In 2025, three-year, region-specific strategies were established for Alberta, Iowa, and Missouri and Canadian public policy efforts. Some organizations that fit the shared priorities of the foundations may not align with these specific strategies, which is not a reflection on the value or impact of their work.


Alberta - Calgary

City-focused strategy

Focus areas

  • Improving housing stability and coordination in Calgary’s homelessness system

  • Reducing barriers to post-secondary completion for vulnerable students

  • Creating accessible pathways to employment, volunteering, and entrepreneurship for youth

  • Addressing immediate and basic needs of vulnerable populations

Alberta – central and northern

Edmonton, and communities across central and northern Alberta

Focus areas

  • Building affordable housing and sector collaboration projects in central and rural Alberta

  • Investing in mental health and addictions programming

  • Engaging in collaborative projects between multiple charitable organizations

  • Responding to community support needs across rural and urban regions

Alberta – southern

Communities across southern Alberta, including Lethbridge and Medicine Hat

Focus areas

  • Supporting operational, infrastructure, and staffing development to build capacity

  • Strengthening the charitable sector through organizational resiliency

  • Investing in youth mentorship, early education, and social and emotional development programming

  • Reducing barriers to counselling and mental health access

  • Responding to immediate needs through crisis support for food, shelter, and family safety

Alberta – province-wide

Focus areas

  • Supporting job training and placement province-wide

  • Investing in community initiatives working towards resilience, and improved conditions for residents

  • Addressing financial barriers to post-secondary education

  • Responding to immediate needs across rural and urban regions

Missouri

Statewide, North St. Louis, and the Bootheel

Focus areas

  • Supporting philanthropic infrastructure and community foundations

  • Creating affordable housing and addressing home repair in North St. Louis

  • Investing in statewide early childhood education initiatives in partnership with Kids Win Missouri

  • Leveraging coordinated investment in community driven Bootheel projects

  • Stabilizing food banks as they accommodate increased demand

Iowa

Statewide and Northwest Iowa

Focus areas

  • Supporting the state’s host community foundations as they adjust to changes to Endow Iowa

  • Leveraging public and other funding of nonprofit infrastructure through capital support

  • Deepening foundation reach to the 26 counties that make up the northwest quadrant of the state

  • Stabilizing food banks as they accommodate increased demand

Canadian public policy

Nation-wide

Focus areas

  • Strengthening Canada’s policy ecosystem

  • Investing in talent development and leadership training

  • Supporting public policy research and ideas
